Synopsis
The Delphi Bureau is a top-secret spy cadre answerable only to the U.S. president. The organization may have just one field operative, a supposed researcher named Glenn Garth Gregory (Laurence Luckinbill). He gets his orders from an in-the-know Washington, D.C. socialite (Celeste Holm), and he relies on a resource that makes him a one-of-a-kind asset: his photographic memory. This adventure-packed, tongue-in-cheek pilot sets the pace and style for the 1972-73 series it launched. In it, Gregory sets out to find who’s behind the disappearance of jets, tanks and other surplus weaponry. He'll be variously hunted by an assassin, tossed in jail for murder, half-buried inside a grain elevator and forced to cling to the undercarriage of a tractor while the driver tries to shred him under its tilling blades. One breathless escape after another invariably seems to land our hero in another jam. “I almost always get it right,” quips Gregory.

        Comments about Delphi Bureau:

When first aired on ABC and also in syndication the film had pieces of a poem running through out the film, then at the end they flashed the entire poem on screen. That poem is missing in the print of the film on the DVD.

        Great Show but...

        Comments about Delphi Bureau:

When I saw this advertised I ordered it immediately. Excellent show. Excellent story. There is one problem with this DVD. Someone decided to edit out an important feature of the show. Before each commercial break during the shows run the screen would freeze and a line from a limerick about the show would appear. As the show progressed you got more lines to the limerick before each commercial. At the end before the credits you got to read the entire limerick. Sadly this is missing because it made the show unique and it was fun to try to memorize the limerick since the show was about a man with a photographic memory.

        ***SPOILER ALERT***

HERE IS THE LIMERICK THAT IS MISSING...

From the capital came a young man…

To uncover some worms in a can…

So they con him – they frame him…

        For murder they blame him…

In turn – he eludes them…

        Pursues – then eschews them…

'Till he holds all the strings to the plan…

The end – more or less, Delphian!

Edited Version of the Pilot Movie

              Comments about Delphi Bureau:

Although this is an excellent print, it is severely edited from the original version of the film. A poor quality bootleg of "The Delphi Bureau" has been on the collectors' market for several years. The bootleg runs almost 17 minutes longer than the print on the Warner Archives DVD. I put both copies on at the same time to see what was cut out. There is a minute cut out at some points, and two more minutes cut out at other points...It's not like a whole chunk has been lifted out of just one section of the film, but there are plot points that are missing as a result of the editing...It seems that the Warner Archives print was prepared for 90-minute time slots, while the original film was made for a two-hour time slot...I'm very disappointed by the editing.

Great show from the ABC TV series "The Men". Let's hope that the best show in the group of 3 rotating series, Assignment Vienna", starring Robert Conrad will come along too!
